Each year on December 6, we celebrate St. Nicholas—but his life has inspiration for us every day. St. Nicholas of Myra was already a seasoned *gift giver* when he learned of a man who couldn't afford dowries for his three daughters. With limited economic options, their future looked grim. To avoid humiliating the family with a public gift, St. Nicholas waited until night and slipped a purse filled with gold coins through an open window in their house. Upon seeing the gold, the father immediately arranged for his first daughter to be married. Once she was wed, St. Nicholas again tossed a purse filled with coins into their home, and the father secured a marriage for his second daughter. After that wedding, the father waited up for two nights, until he caught St. Nicholas red-handed. The father fell to his knees, thanking his benefactor. But, St. Nicholas, preferring to remain anonymous, demanded the father never reveal his identity. Faith is what drives us. What we do for children and families is no secret.
