Our Community’s Response: Michigan’s Safe Delivery Law and How To Prevent the Abandonment of Newborns

On November 12, 2014, a 17-year old was charged with the murder of her newborn infant who she smothered in her bathroom on October 15 in an attempt to hide the pregnancy from her family. Here is a brief news clip.

She did not know about Michigan’s Safe Delivery Law. Most young people don’t.

Catholic Social Services is hosting a community meeting to gather Washtenaw County leaders who serve youth (ages 13-21) to provide information about the law and our community response.  We are hoping to spread the word about Safe Delivery in efforts to stop these tragic cases from happening in the future.

With your help, we can reduce the numbers of these tragic deaths. Please share this with anyone of interest and feel free to bring any student leaders with you to the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled for:

Thursday December 11th from 78pm at CSSW

(4925 Packard Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48108).

Following the presentation will be a Q&A. Light refreshments will be provided.

Please RSVP by Monday December 8th to Julie Payne ([email protected]).

We appreciate your support in addressing this issue and look forward to meeting you!
