National Volunteer Month: Emergency Food

Digital CameraLily is a faithful volunteer at the Emergency Food Program. Her consistency, dependability and organizational skills provide tremendous support to the Food Program Staff. These abilities are important to helping families and individuals receive the food they need in a timely fashion.

“Volunteering helps me stay alert mentally and physically, as well as unite with people from diverse backgrounds to work toward a common goal. Through volunteering, I have gained knowledge of local resources available to help the community food needs. This experience gives me the chance to give something back to the community and make a difference to the people that come to Northside Community food bank.”

Without the donations of community members, or the help of volunteers like Lily, this program would not have served 1,819 households in 2013.

The Emergency Food Program is located at the Northside Community Center, and distributes groceries and personal care items to low income families and individuals on a monthly and/or emergency basis. For more information about the program or to donate, please visit their webpage.
