We’d like to inform you of our Adoptive Parent Preparation Groups for the coming year and encourage you to attend. We believe that these classes are beneficial to anyone interested in or seriously pursuing adoption, whether through Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County, another agency, an attorney or internationally. Please think about joining us!
In a fun, non-threatening environment, our series of four classes attempts to prepare families for parenting through adoption by “walking in the shoes” of all members of the adoption circle. In addition to the didactic presentations, each evening features a panel of adoptive parents, birth families and/or adoptees who will share their experiences with adoption.
Session One: Adoption Knowledge
Session Two: Walking with Adoptive Parents
Session Three: Walking with Adoptees and Birth Parents
Session Four: Walking with the Whole Family, Parenting Tips, Birth Parent Letters/Albums
The next series of classes will be held on: TBD
We also encourage families to bring along one or more “support people” who will be important in your child’s life and who would like to be educated about adoption to help support you along the way.
Support people who have attended in the past have appreciated the opportunity to be included and have been very grateful for the education they’ve received. Many found that they were able to support their family member/friends in helpful ways through the ups and downs of waiting, through the anxious yet exciting time of the choice and birth process and in helping explain adoption to other family members or friends.
Please think of someone that you’d like to have come along with you!
Our groups are fun, informative and non-threatening!
