SSL History
In the beginning of 1999 the ADA Program was asked by 15th District Judge Elizabeth Pollard-Hines to develop a "pre-intervention educational program" for batterers. ADA fulfilled that request and in June 1999 offered the first monthly intensive 16-hour educational 2-day seminar.
Shedding Some Light (SSL) meets on a Monday and Tuesday and offers a combination of lecture, educational video as well as an opportunity to participate in several ADA intervention groups. This service is open to the public; the cost is $175.00. Completion of SSL reduces the duration of the ADA Program from 52 sessions to 45 sessions.
The goal of SSL to intensively provide the Service Participant with in a in-depth understanding of the dynamics, myths and realities about domestic violence and to immerse him in a detailed overview of the Alternatives to Domestic Aggression Program. It has been our experience that involvement in the SSL Program aids in reducing the resistance generally seen in the early phases of involvement in a batterer intervention service as well as promotes clarification of the expectations of the ADA Program.
